Tumescence Is Real
Has anyone else been feeling that emotions are at an all time high this week? Irritability, sadness, frustration, rage - whatever your flavor. I’ve been noticing it in myself and the people in my life too. After all this time staying at home, in uncertain and unusual circumstances, things can feel like they’re reaching a breaking point. Maybe you’re spinning in the thought “wtf am I doing with my life??”. Or feeling that it’s most definitely time to leave your relationship. For some of you, it might be a breakthrough point, because the intensity is within range, and you can stay conscious with whatever is arising. But for others - it just feels like too much. If you’re in the second group - this is a reminder that tumescence is real!
Tumescence is blocked or inflated energy in our bodies. We all have energy - call it chi or life force or eros. Yet when it’s not flowing or in range, it’s experienced as agitation, resentment, anxiety, the feeling of being tired yet wired. You know, like a cat that could scratch someone’s face off, or being exhausted but unable to sleep. The energy is trapped inside our bodies (kind of like you feel inside of your house) and fuels whatever is in there. It can make your mind spin, your body ache, and your emotions skyrocket.
Emotions are both content (what we’re thinking) and energy (how we feel it in our body). So if our emotions are feeling our of wack, chances are that the inflated energy of tumescence is at play. In the erotic, we learn to work with this energy, moving and transforming it into power, creativity and turn on*. Essentially, we make it useable. At advanced levels, we even increase tumescence in order to have more potential energy to work with.
That kind of practice takes time. But to start we can turn towards our tumescence and do some things to digest it and get it back in range - exercise, have a loooong salt bath, connect with a friend, if possible OM or have sex. Maybe most importantly, we can remember that tumescence is real - so we stop beating ourselves (and others) up with it.
*The good news is that the more tumescence you have, the more potential power, creativity and turn on you have as well.
