Are You a Good Lover?
This week, sensation has been a recurring theme in my teaching. How it’s our capacity to open to sensation, to feel it fully, and to consciously allow it to move through us unhindered that creates intimacy with life.
When you think about it, it’s really the same practice as being a good lover. Being open to a wide range of sensation (from subtle to electrifying) and allowing it to come through us without tensing up, numbing out, or throwing the hot potato of reactivity.
So as erotic practitioners we can ask, when life evokes intense sensation, how do we respond? Do we let it in deeply, finding our yes, giving permission for life to f*ck us well? And do we allow the most resonant response to come through us in return, unafraid of how it looks, but with absolute attunement for how it lands?
It takes practice to experience life at this level of volition, with this level of get off. I think of it as more of a lifelong adventure than a destination - a process of both deepening purification and cultivating awareness. That’s why we meditate, OM, write inventory, all of it. To be channels for that amount of sensation to come through, while being in intimacy with ourselves, others and all of life.
